Background and Objectives of the Project
The Chinese Methodist church situated in Merivale Christchurch is a beautiful new building designed with the Methodist parish and surrounding community in mind. In the 2011 earthquake the original church was damaged beyond repair. Viridian Glass and Euroglass Christchurch have been involved in the glazing of the building internally and externally. A key feature of the project is the use of profilit U-channel glass which allows vast amounts of light into the building whilst maintaining a high element of privacy.
Target Market
Local community and the parishioners of the Chinese Methodist Church.
The Special Challenges We Faced
- This project ran very smoothly, however, the biggest learning curve for the team was the need of cutting the Profilit on precise angles.
- Specialist fittings were air freighted from Germany to ensure that the project was completed in a timely fashion
Products We Used
External glazing:
External DGU – 4mm clear on 4mm clear
Profilit Single shell K25/60/7
Results
This was a great outcome using an established product in a way that is functional and beautiful. Profilit glass is the main feature throughout the church.
Summary
As the Christchurch rebuild takes place, there are significant architectural pieces within the city embracing the use of new and old materials. The exterior wooden fins combine with the strong vertical profilit lines forming a façade that appears seamless. The project was one that Euroglass Christchurch really enjoyed and were very honored to be a part of.
